Which Linux?

I am required to do a project in C++ on Linux platform.Please let me know which Linux distro would be best suited to me keeping in mind im new to Linux.

Are u an engineering student?. Please specify the exact needs & requirements of ur project. Not that it is going to make a very big difference.

Any distro, just add GCC and it'll compile

Please refer to commonly asked topics thread in the sticky and/or use the search feature. This has been answered many times. Any distro out there is good. Just pick up one of your choice, install gcc and any other IDE's, if needed and get started.
