@Dabster, you must specify your PC configuration, what motherboard, etc., Then I can tell you how to
synchronize audio & video. By the way , what version of Ubuntu you are using? Do post the details or PM
me , I'll help you solve your problem.

I am using ubuntu Brezzy badger that's 5.10...and have Gigabyte K8V800M-L motherboard....with amd64 processor....

I don't think it to be a machine specific problem....My friend who is using Ubuntu BB on Acer laptop with some onboard Nvidia card is also having the same problem....

Actually I have installed gstreamer-ffmpeg and gstreamer-mpeg2dec packages only.... And i thinks that some other package is also required which i am not able to figure out....

Since many people hv same problem as it can be seen by the count of views to this query I am posting the solution to it as told to me...

Hello Dabster,
You need to install the drivers for your
motherboard chipset. Since there is no hardware
acceleration , there won't be sychronisation of audio &
video. Mine is based on Intel 845GV chipset. I installed
a package called '855resolution' and did some configuration & the same problem like yours was solved for me.

Here is the procedure:
----------------------------------
Open Synaptic Package Manager. From it's menu chose
Settings-> Repositories. It will Open a dialog called
'Software Preferences' select all the options on that
dialog box and click on 'Add'. On clicking Add button
opens a dialog box 'Edit Repository'. Select all the
options - Officially Restricted, Restricted Copyright,
Community Maintained (Universe), Non-free (Multiverse).
Click on OK. Now the Repository connects to the Net
and gets all the software sources available. After the
source-update is done click on 'Reload' button to see
the changes. Now depending on your motherboard
& chipset type select & install the drivers & configure
as per the instructions given.

Though I am myself unable to find my hardware specific Resolution package...

Since your Processor is 64-bit. You must use 64-bit Ubuntu. I think that will have the
drivers for your motherboard. Also use the latest version of Ubuntu (6.06)

Ok good. Even Ubuntu plays VCD/DVD very well. Just like in Windows.
