Default how i install media player in linux


hi
i m using FRDORA CORE 2 , how i install media player or real player in linux ,i had install real player but it doesnt play video file (.dat,.mpeg)
plz suggest me to avoid this

If youwant to run windows specific application in linux , u can use WINE .But remember that prety tough ... if u are a novice to linux.

hello
now we have a seperate open source forum it is sad to see this post here. Please post such queries in the open source form and thus increasing the popularity of the forum.
as regarding your Q try installing mplayer it is same as windows media player for exact instructions please tell us the linux distro you are using
ok ok i saw that you use FC 2 i too use it so the best way is to use yum
1. go on the net and down load a file called yum.conf (This you will get from a google search)
2. Next all you have to do is give a command
yum install mplayer

this will get mplayer all its dependency and the frontend and install it on your system
The other way is to self download rpm od mplayer gui and any other dependency and then do a rpm -ivh *.rpm
