Unable to install ubantu

Hi guys,
I recently tried to install Ubantu along with Win XP. Installation went fine with manual partitioning with no error msgs.
But when i reboted my pc Error msg is displayed
Error to load grub. Error 17
How can i fix this.
Moreover how can i recover my WinXp now.

I am unable to reinstall grub using those mentioned command.
It says "Access denied". Even though i was logged in as root.
Grub stuck saying error no 17.

Use a windows XP disk, boot and enter recovery console. Now type Fixmbr and hit enter and reboot to enter windows. Now again attempt a linux installation

Have a look at this thread. See if anything here helps then try for extreme measures like reinstalling.
