Default ubunutu installing new appications

I have installed ubunutu. it contains only a few applications. I want to install applications for viewing DVD/VCD, writing to CD/DVD, ripping, editing music, mp3 software for changing bit rates, etc. How to install and from where I will get these applications.

first enable universal,multiverse repos.here is my /etc/apt/sources.list.cpoy this to the end of line if u want.
Code:
#Security Updates
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security main restricted

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security universe multiverse

#Breezy updates
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-updates main restricted universe multiverse
#Backports
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-backports main restricted universe multiverse

#Main Repos
deb ftp://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ breezy main restricted universe multiverse
#deb-src ftp://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ breezy main restricted
then apt-get update.
run synaptic package manager(in menu bar's preferences/administration>synaptic or in a terminal type sudo synaptic) and select what packages u wanna install.for dvd's to play in linux,libdvdcss is needed.

Default

1. Application => Add Applications
2. System => Administration => Add Applications
3. System => Administration => Synaptic Package Manager
4.Open Ternminal => sudo apt-get install <package name> => your password
Also try out automatix, it provides installation of a few common software in an easy point and click method. Read about it here

And please read Ubuntu Guide that will help you a lot in using Ubuntu.
