Default no grub file

i installed knoppix 4.0 to hdd but grub.conf file is missing

I never tried knoppix but in some distributions, there is nother file "menu.lst" (or something like that) in stead of grub.conf in the same directory!

Try that...

Knoppix is just a live cd, you can boot from it. Once you reboot or turn your computer off its gone. It doesn't install anything on your computer.
How did you install it on your computer? Can you tell us that.

But, can u install it on ur hard drive? I've never heard about that.

Yeps Knoppix uses LILO by default instead of GRUB.Atleast from this document seems to suggest so : http://www.bytebot.net/geekdocs/debian-knoppix.html

The above url also has got info for installation of a Knoppix Live CD on a hard drive.

Login as root in a terminal by typing sudo -s and give the command knoppix-installer or knx-install ...In the recent versions its the former one....

its knoppix-installer in knoppix 4.0.2. I just installed knoppix in my hard drive and will be trying it out soon.

Then the earlier versions from 3.2 and later it is knx-install....
I installed 3.2 long back never tried the later ones...
