Default Firefox Vs Internet explorer-truths revealed

It seems that what is,isn't.Firefox, the open source browser developed by the mozzila foundation, was always reckoned to have less security pressures than internet explorer. But that's perhaps a myth.Mozzila browsers are potentially more vulnerable to attack than IE according to a report by symnatec.
According to the report vendors confirmed 25 browser vulnerabilities in Firefox as opposed to 13 of that of IE.Firefox had more severe vulnerabilities than IE.Since the release of firefox,Mozzila has been tom-tomming how its browser was "fundamentally more secure than IE".
So which is better??
This is left for u to choose.
note:i am not on anyone's side since i use opera. 8)

If it is not obvious to you, Firefox is still fundamentally better, I think you are referring to a controversial news about hand picked 'Firefox' vulnerabilities.

The news didn't compare anything about the ammount of actual dangerous 'IE vulnerabilities' in the same period. Just to let you know IE still have more vulnerabilities which are not yet fixed. Dont trust every thing you reading in your friendly neighbour hood computer magazines either.

They have a tendency to get biased towards their commercial interests.

Think and observe what could be more 'fundamentally worst secure than 'ActiveX' controls ??

Uh!! Big Deal!! I use Linux!! and only linux. The vulnerabilities are mainly dependent on the OS, isn't it? I've been using ff and i can tell you it's way secure than I*E. Anyways i don't mind even running links2 from terminal.

Ok, I am sure this topic has been discussed a lot before as Srijit said. But I am new here so can't resist to add my view to this.

Leaving out all other aspects, I being a professional open source programmer point out the main advantage of Mozilla FireFox. Mozilla is open source, and hence many programmers work on it making it better each day and removing the bugs immediately.

Extensions in firefox is a fine example to explain this clearly. Any one, literally anyone can contribute to make firefox better. I understand that Opera is known to be the fastest browser especially after they brought out the no-ads free version, but this main aspect of FF puts it well above it competitors.

Hmm, sounds impressive but Microsoft just can't be trusted. Let them deliver better products first and then talk

all of you who support opera, thanx
anyway let me tell u something(no offence)
firefox vs opera
1.download and install
Firefox's 1.0.7'sinstaller weighs 4.7mb whereas opera 8.5 weights lighter at 3.6 mb.this is all the more remarkable because opera includes an email client, rss reader and irc client in the base install, whereas firefox requires additional components to be downoaded later.
result-firefox 0 opera 1

2.look and feel
opera opens in a very clean and minimalist window.the tab bar is on the top right and each tab has it's own toolbar.the interface is less cluttered.of course, u can also custonize your toolber if u want.everything in opera is nicely shaded and pleasently coloured.visual effects and alpha blending put the icing on the cake.but firefox is not bad either.
Where opera truly shines is in it's handling of web pages.tabs are implemented far better in opera.they have done their homework on tabs.
result-firefox 2 opera 4

3.usage and features
this i cant say anything becoz it's the user's own personal experience. so i give equal marks to both
result-firefox-3 opera 3

4.Customizability
Widely touted as the "most customizable browser on the planet",Firefox does indeed offer hundreds of extensions. Most of these are made by the users themselves.Google has it's version for firefox as well. While a number of firefox extensions are designed to mimic the functions that opera has built in.Both browsers have search fields next to their address bars.Opera even lets u search directly from the address bar using keyboards for each search engine.
result firefox 2 opera 4

5.resource utilization
firefox uses about 30 mb of ram and an equal amount of virtual memory with about fifteen tabs open, whereas opera consumes up to 70 mb ram and well over a 100 mb of virtual memory under the same load.
result firefox 3 opera 3

verdict
firefox scores 10
opera scores 15
firefox may be good for newbies but opera clearly makes the cut.
