Audio Video in Red hat9

Can't play MP3 or any movie files in Red Hat9.Can DVD be played in Red Hat9. Can't even download any movie files except MPEG(no WMV).Plz help.

RedHat has removed MP3 support from their distributions. You have to download a free plugin for XMMS and install it inorder to play MP3 files using XMMS.

And, to play videos, you can use Xine. It supports ACD, DVD, and VCD, AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3. Get it here-

Downloaded the .rpm & the plug in files of XMMS.But whenever i play a MP3 file it runs in fast forward mode without any sound. What to do? And also inside the xinehq site in the download section it says "Step 1: Download and install xine-lib".There r bout 5 .tar files do i have to download all these files and 1 front end?

NO you don't have to download them all. They are just different versions of xine. You just need to download the latest one and if that doesn't work - since you are using old version of RHL - then you might need to download the older version and see. Then you need to download the front end of our liking so that you can get GUI interface.
