Default how to detect an extra hard disk in fc 4


hi frd,
i have a sata hd in my computer.and i want to detect a 40 gb extra pata in fc 4. it has ntfs partition in it. fc 4 can not detect in .i was check it through fdisk command.but it was not give any kind of information about pata.
so pls help in in detecting my 40 gb pata.

I dont know much .but did you tried running 'kudzu' hardware detection tool in RH.or if u got debian try running 'discover'.my uncle's running FC4 with seagate 80GB SATA and 40 GB PATA no problems at all.I think it's got to do with ur hardware wiring try fixing the cables etc as PATA discs are automatically detected in all distros try checking the BIOS for SATA as primary master and PATA as primary slave.in 'fdisk -l' SATA will be 'sdx' and PATA 'hdx' where x is part. no.

And post the out put here.

Alternatively you can check whether your two hard disks are detected on System Tools>Hardware Browser
