I dont think you can resume a download unless you use a download manager.

You on windows?? then use some thing like 'Free download Manager" and put in the url for the iso from the above location, (i386)

The download manager will have a pause button for stopping the download for the time you want to, unpause it next time you connect.

Better still hunt for back issues of Digit or CHIP with some of your friends, they carried FC4, you will not need to go through days of careful downloading.

It asked for a username/password simply because the url was a FTP link.
Anonymous FTP to be precise. To enter or download use "anonymous" as the username & "youremailaddress" as the password[without the quotes ofcourse]
i.e, username=anonymous & password=digen@digen.com

Normally thats how public anonymous ftp servers function.

I checked the fedora4 download link, there is no need for paswords, may be you are using some wierd download manager.

Download and install this download manger for windoz
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm

Activate it as main download manager restart and download fedora from here
