now i want remove it
but the prob is my xp cd is not booting
it says the setup is checking system config and then screen goes blank
i am sure there is nothing wrong with the cd
now how do i remove the boot loader from the MBR
i dont have the OSL boot manager either
but first tell why the xp cd is not booting properly?
and then how do get rid of the linux?????

If you're experiencing problems during installation, then use the boot floppy method. That is, create a boot floppy, copy all the files from c:\osl2000 to that floppy, boot your system using that floppy and run 'dosinst.exe' to install.
get your help from here on what to do next

i think there is more on this thing to wonder about ....
i solved it no wonder ...
the problem is i installed ubuntu linux
totally lost xp
but again non of the windows cd's booted
all the linux cd's were booting !!!!!
and to and to my mysery not even the OSL bootdisk was not booting !!!
i dont why this is happening ??
but i got it back i removed the hard disk controller then the xp cd booted
and the system was restored
but the big question that still remains is that did this piece of circus happen????
what was relation between the hard disk and boot cd
why did the linux distro's boot?
and why didn't the windows cd's boot?
and how did the system develop such immunity for windows ????
SOMETHING TELLS ME THAT THIS THE BEST QUESTION EVER POSTED ON THE DIGIT FORUM !!!!!!
SO I GUESS ONLY THE BEST WILL BE KNOWING THE ANSWERS !!!!
SO ALL U GEEKS TELL ME WHY ????

You must delete the linux partition at first, because windows willnot support the ext2, ext3 or other linux file systems.
So when you booting from xp cd it comes on "checking your hardware" and goes blank.
Boot from win98 bootfloppy and run the fdisk, then delete the linux (unknown) partitions and create fat file system partitions and restart your system.
Install winxp>>>>>>>>>>

vrnoormd is right .You have to delete linux partitions as winxp does not recognise them.

strange folks ur cd boots and my thing doesn't
i think there is more into this thing than just being a strange case....
i think there are areas of interest ....
can a problem arise if both the harddisk and cd drive are configured as master ide's .........
and again can a problem arise if say the grub was installed properly ..
i told u that the linux was not booting ..
so maybe the prob is at the mbr itself....
in any case the XP-cd should have booted ...
but why didnt it boot .....
and as suggeted non of the floppies or windows cd's were booting..
not even the OSL boot floppy ...
so what do u think was the prob...
and it will be nice if u folks can go through this entire thread before posting a reply !!!!!!

well this problem still continues
after i install linux the grub is not loading properly
then i try to boot through the windows cd's and they dont boot
then i remove the harddisk connector
the cd boots but when i try to repair the MBR
by using fixmbr
it doesnt work
all i could do was reformat and go through the ordeal of insalling windows all over again !!!!
so all u dudes and the geeks here wats up haaa!!!!
