Default fedora 4 help for a new linux user


hi friends
i have just recently installed fedora core 4 (shipped with digit) after trying 3 other linux os ( PCQlinux 2004,Mandrake and knoppix).These earlier ones didn't support my aureal sound card,but thanx God now i can play songs on linux.i m new to linux n wud like u to help me with few questions.

1.earlier a friend of mine who is a linux geek installed linux on my pc.and i was able to c other drives(FAT) n windows drive as well,but now only linux partition(/) bcoz i myself installed linux using / on one drive.Can something bring back my drives so that i can listen to mp3 stored there?

2.how to install .rpm files?

3.how to install .tar.gz files?

4.plz suggest some tutorial for operating linux for beginners like me!!

1.Mount your fat partitions or edit the fstab

2.To install rpm files just double click it in Fedora.

3.tar.gz have to be unpacked and then

./configure
make
make install

4.Fedora Core is a good linux distro to start with.Others may be Knoppix livecd,Mandrake(mandravia) etc..[/url]

i suggest u use sourceinstall for installing for a tar.gz file. its a lot easier, and got an option for uninstalling too.
