how to set up internet in ubuntu

can anyone help me how to set up internet in ubuntu

i have broadband internet

can also how to configure to play media like mp3 etc

Do you use an Ethernet card to connect to the Internet? If yes, is it detected?

If you are using an ethernet card then you need to have your 'Default Gateway', IP address, 'Subnet Mask' & 'DNS server' adresses with you to set up internet in Ubuntu.

yes i use lan card to connect to internet

i have ip address,subet,dns tc

then how to procede to connect to net

^ you need to go for static IP address.
Follow the method and see if you can get it working.

no need for all those details on Ubuntu,

Just goto terminal and type

sudo pppoeconf

Then go thro' the steps(all well explained as for a n00b)
and voila, Ubuntu does the rest
