Default Fedora Core Installer

I was trying to Install Fedora Core OS today and this CD which my friend gave me constantly gives me an error which is ,

" Assertion ( heads <256) at disk_dos.c :486 in function probe partition for geom ( ) failed."

This error comes with the Ignore and Cancel but , and I have to repeatedly press these buttons to be able to continue which then follows another error of a similar type.

A few months when my friend had installed from this same CD he did not face any problem.

Can anybody please tell me if the CD has got spoilt or there is some error in the computer.

Is fedora a part of Red Hat.?

Thanks for your time.

whch fedora is it ?? 3 or 4??

Red hat has officially stopped its free linux and now its developers are running a free community based linux called the Fedora Project.. its new release comes every 6 months i guess..

so basically redhat does not own fedora.. it supports..

Red hat is more concentrating on its RHEL ( Red Had Enterprise Linux ) for corporates..

Redhat does not give any support on FC .. for all support goto irc.freenode.net and chan #fedora for all ur free community support

Dude

try these

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=138419

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archiv...p/t-23251.html

someone wrote this

In my case it seems to have been triggered by cylinder alignment of
old partitions.

This solution worked for me:
- started FC3 install process in graphics mode
- used ALT-F2 to bring up text terminal
- fdisk /dev/hda
- deleted all partions
- write partition table
- repeat for /dev/hdc, /dev/hdd, /dev/sda

Restarted the install ... cleanly installed FC3 without any complaints
at all.
