Ubuntu 10.04 lts not working

I have installed ubuntu 10.04 but it hangs up on login screen or after a minute or so after logging in .
please help


my config

Pentium d 925
intel d102ggc2
1.5 gb ram kingston
500gb hdd seagate

[celldweller1591]

its a known problem of acpi . the kernel freezes up .
i had the same problem. here is the fix :-
-Just goto ubuntu (you will get 2 minutes or so do the whole thing so keep things fast )Make sure to login as admin !
-type in terminal
" sudo gedit /etc/default/grub"

-find the line "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX"=""
-replace it as "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX"="acpi=off"

Save it and exit .
then type "sudo update-grub" in the terminal .
Restart you computer .It should work fine !

No Dude its not working
and some asic bug is also there when a enter the linux option in the grub
