No difference except Kubuntu uses KDE DE while the normal Ubuntu uses Gnome. There is an XFCE variant known as Xubuntu.

I prefer Ubuntu (GNOME) rather than Kubuntu (awesome looks KDE
)Both are equally good.

In the end all that's different is probably the difference between each Window Manager, package Managers used and other applications that come bundled with it.
