Default Simple iptables tutorial

If you are looking for a simple guide on manually setting up a firewall using the powerful netfilter/iptables tool, this guide is a pretty good one -

http://www.justlinux.com/nhf/Securit...es_Basics.html

There are many others out there on the internet, but this one is just right for starting out.

The tutorial is good. Another way to configure iptables is through a gui. Download guarddog which is a frontend for iptables. Set up all the rules that you want and it produces the desired iptables rules automatically.
This is just an alternative for a lazy bumm like me, nothing beats writing the rules yourself.

I will prefer http://freshmeat.net/projects/easytables/ for newbies.

Yeah, the iptables wizards are really great for getting a firewall up quickly, there are some other good ones, firestarter, quicktables and few more ...

Setting it up manually does have lots of merits though, its fun when you get it set up
