Default LAN email

Hi guys n gals!,
We have a LAN, with Windows XP as OS. I want to exchange emails between users of the LAN. We do not have an Exchange Server. I downloaded an smtp server from the net, but cannot seem to get the configuration right.
Idea is: get our office email from the Internet, then share it amongst all users.
Additionally, can u suggest some free software to share adress books?

Believe u me, I have tried on the a/m probs hard enuf

A google query led me to CMail Server. Its not a freeware though.
There is a graphical guide in setting up a email server for a lan environment.

As for a freeware option you may find Pegasus Email Server woth considering.Good luck & let us know how it goes.
