Location?

Cheap call rates>MTNL/BSNL (Airtel most expensive)
Good reception>Airtel (MTNL/BSNL worst)
Prepaid > all operators provide prepaid services
Best Offers for sms charges > Vodafone (Never got any local sms package in Airtel)

Thumbs up Re: Which connection to take?

take airtel 1 year validity sim then load talktime whatever u need and use power voucher, thats all a-a 30 paisa( also i get free talktime on 333/444 topups) others 75 paisa std rs 1 for 96 recharge(power) i am using this scheme. Its good.

p.s forgot to mention that cheapest rates are from cellone(using power) but bsnl networks r not the best one in kolkata.

If most of your friends/relative are on airtel, go for it as you may get some free airtel to airtel calls per month on some prepaid plans, otherwise Vodafone. On vodafone, you get packages for that much free sms if you recharge with a given amount, but on airtel , even after recharging with 31/35Rs. coupen all you get is sms rate reduced to 20p per message.

^^Airtel provides only a few attractive offers in Delhi, all are kept reserved for other cities only. Take for example Mobile Office, at some places it is available for just Rs. 249pm for unlimited use but it Delhi, one has to pay Rs. 499

Its matter of personal choice though.
But always consider a operator having good coverage, and choose operator which is owned by persons whom you frequently call as call rates may be cheaper on same operator.
BTW i have used both Airtel & Vodafone(BSNL too, but it s**ks).
Airtel has excellent coverage while Vodafone gives more candid offers like free/full talktime, SMS@10p and more...
