Default Nokia N82 or SE P1i

Hi guys,
Some explanation first:

I've been a satisfied Reliance user for about 5 years now, but have decided to leave for GSM (feels like I'm cheating on my wife ). This is simply because my Nokia 6275 died on me, and Reliance unfortunately do not have a decent phone selection as regards price and functionality.

So now since I have decided to go GSM, I need to know which of these two to buy. Budget is max 20K.

My sister has the P1i and is happy with it. I think its pretty OK too, but the Nokia N82 seems to offer so much more except for a QWERTY keypad and touchscreen. The keypad is definitely not a deal-breaker. The touch screen would be a nice bonus but is not absolutely essential (I have been warned they tend to go bad quickly, however). The small apparent margin in price is not really significant. All I care is that my limit is 20K.

So I thought I'd get some feedback from you guys on this issue.

Saw the N79 on the web, didn't like it too much. So please do not consider it in the choice.

Simple choice: N82 or P1i, all other things being equal.
Rational and detailed explanations and discussions are requested.

Thanks in advance for your help and opinions.

One other caveat. I am a veterinarian, and as such spend a lot of my time in relatively dusty and harsh (to electronics) environments.

The phone should be sturdy enough to survive some dust/water and a few knocks with very little functional (more important) and cosmetic damage.

Read your opinions above, and am leaning the same way. However, I am a relative newbie in the world of GSM, given my recent Reliance past.

As for the N85, sliders are positively out. A number of my colleagues have had unpleasant experiences with them, due to the harshness of the work environment.

N82 : "U don't need 2 think twice before buying it"
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3...&idPhone1=1982

The inconvenient keypad (N82) is quite exaggerated! Neways, I too have similar opinion bt touchscreens. Ah well, who keeps his hand clean all the time?

@mediator:

My prejudice against touchscreens is well-founded. My Palm LifeDrive, which is my other constant companion (my phone being the first), is a seasoned veteran of my life and work style.

The poor thing's screen looks like a warrior's face, with horrendous scratches and blemishes.

It's not just people's hands and fingers. The dust can wreak havoc with a touchscreen, even when there is a protector.

Once had a small particle of dust under my screen protector. By the time I realised and removed it, there was a huge scratch there, which scared the s**t out of me.

I guess the n82 will do just fine. But if you want a hardy mobile, consider the C702. Else N82 is the way to go.
