Default K550i Review by kRaTeS

Well i recently purchased a K550i for my sister and here’s my review of the 2 Megapixel star.

Box-content Well in the box there was
1. Handsfree - HPM-62
2. Pc suite cd
3. Usb cable
4. Bunch of manuals

Looks

Starting with the looks i must tell you that it got the best looks in the 7K range. It is a slim phone and fits very well in pocket.

W810I/K550I

Display

The best part about the phone is it’s display the screen brightness is cool see below

Music
Well music player in the phone is just the same like W810i music player in grey - Mega bass

Sound quality is same but mega bass makes a difference in W810i

It contains a dedicated Play/Pause key

Loudspeaker volume is low ............

Battery

Using the camera for more than 10pics using flash and keeping the brightness high can drain battery very soon for frequent uses battery life is good. Last for about 3/2 days

Build Quality

Build quality of the phone is good. Feels sturdy in hand no creack preack

Camera

Well the camera is descent good enough to take casual shots. There are a lots of setting for camera

See the sample pics made by the K550i……

Phoonk

Negatives

Well the bad part was only the low resolution and a small screen and the camera buttons was tooo soft.

Conclusion

Very good phone for it’s price sound quality is very good , camera is descent , Display is the brightest i have seen , keypad works very good , and for the fact it can be flashed to W610i it is the best phone for that price.

Purchase Price
6939 Rs /-

Thanks
krates

Nice. But very short. Things like build quality, loudspeaker volume, battery life, etc. are missing from the review.

Question Re: K550i Review by kRaTeS

I'm also a satisfied owner of this phone and never tried to update its firmware or anything. Actually I don't want to damage my phone due to any mistake while updating. But now its about a year old and I want to do some experimentation. I have downloaded XS++ and when I tried to connect my phone for GDFS backup, it offered me to update it to CID52 from CID51. I am a little confused here. Should I update it before backup or do it later after GDFS backup? Should I take out my SIM card before doing all this stuff? Can I backup my GDFS multiple times? Also is it any how possible to switch it back to original state like it was never flashed? Here is the XS++ generated log.

Actually I heard you can pretty well multitask with this mobile. Is it true? How do you multitask in k550i krates? To what extent can we multitask? Can we run 2 Java apps the same time? Can we Download an app and listen to music simultaenously? I read about multitasking here. There are also many other resources where I read it can multitask but dont know to what level it can, probably not as much as the Sybians can. Please clear me out.

hey dude your phone is CID51
you can try to make it CID52 using XS++ and script given at my website..!

If you use SEUS then it will become CID53 which is not desirable .

yeah first backup gdfs then update the CID...
if XS++ can't update CID.
then use the script given at my site.

Question Re: K550i Review by kRaTeS

Thanks a_k_s_h_a_y,

By the way, I've somehow managed to make a mistake. I've flashed Media Player 2 skins in "/tpa/multimedia/mp/skins/" instead of "/tpa/system/multimedia/mp/skins/" (Yes I'm nervous). Then I've flashed it again to the right folder. But those are not showing in the Skins options. What to do...?

Also How can I anyhow take a backup of my original camera driver? How to know W880 Acoustics have installed correctly? How to remove the Acoustics from my phone and restore it to defaults?

Please help.

(Am I hijacking this thread?...don't know!)

Thanx Man. Much appreciated. Is it the only non-OS(or rather propietary OS) SE phone that can multitask? My friend wanted to buy a good multitasking multimedia phone, thats why. Also this phone is a better option than K530i isnt it? (3G not needed).

Oh. I didnt know as the things are not same with Nokia S40 series.
As you say the JAVA app should be someway enabled to use the feature, I doubt if any java app exclusively for SE wont do it by default.

550i was my previous phone. Its definitely a very good phone. But its camera is a bit dissapointing given its cybershot branding. It's performance in low light conditions is abysmal compared to similarly priced phones from nokia (even when compared to 750i its dissapointing). Another issue with the phone is the keypad.

To minimize the current window press back+right soft key together for a few secs.

I too own the phone clicked some nice pics.
I havent upgraded the firmware though and it is same, as in february when I had bought it, had checked at that time there was no new firmware update for it.

It is very stable has not give me any kind of problem yet, though have not checked much of its music features. ANd I love its blue backlight, battery I can say is low in comparision to nokia which use BL-5C. for K550 battery goes low quick now, unlike earlier when it ran for almost 2 and half day lasts for 1.5 to 2 days(may say due to increase of usage) but certainly the display takes alot of battery.
