We reported earlier that the iPhone would probably be hitting Indian shores in September, courtesy of Vodafone.

Interestingly, both the leading carriers in India, Vodafone and Bharti Airtel ( via SingTel ) have released official press releases that they would be bringing the iPhone to India later this year. However, neither of the press releases divulged any information about the exclusivity of the iPhone or the price it would be available for.

With the 3G iPhone imminent this June, it would be interesting to see which version of the iPhone is brought here. Do we get the iPhone v2.0 with 3G and GPS, or is the old version dumped here ?

Iphone unlocked was available in grey market @ Kochi for 20K.
But not sure about Vod and Air Iphones The ppl@ deir office say 25-30 K !
But it's international value is around 20K! as reported by some crazy writer in wordpress (sorry, cant find a source)

2nd hand iphone??do u think neun is dumb enuf to sell their iphone in idnai after having spent a fotune in it..resale value is very low here..

btw krazzy..u can get the iphone for as low as 8k here in kolkata..sum iphones get damaged in the course of unlocking and hence lose most of its features..the grey market here has stocks offiphones thru which u can only cal..no cam...no music nothin..just the iphone at a 8k price...

I believe there might be few people who might have bought the iPhone without looking at its features (or rather the lack of them) and when they learnt that their phone can't even send a simple file via bluetooth, decided to sell it. There might be some such iPhones available for resale.

You seem to be mistaken..There ARE lots of people who might be more than willing to sell their iphones, for example, to upgrade to the next version of iphone maybe ?

Well AFAIK I know, iPhone v2.0 is just a firmware upgrade.....

Nope. Its a whole new iPhone with 3G, GPS, maybe a 3.2mp cam and of course v2.0 fw.

Its nice to have this most talked iPhone in India. But the thing all matters is that which one we are going to see first either the old one or the most talked 3G enabled iPhone.....!

@anand, only the old version bcoz we would (INDIANS) never get3g in the next 10 years. But 4g according to our govt

. WiFi would be broadly available but 3g? not sure...
Future Gen technologies like WiMax etc are booming up..... so fast and we can only expect after the tec is accepted in SA !!! but there is a fair chance of getting the iphone new(2.0) because of the acception of ipod touch! Just assuming...

Having an iPhone in India is really no big deal. This forum itself has at least five members who own iPhones, myself being one of them.

Those pictures are fake Photoshopped crap. That’s not what the next generation iPhone is going to look like.

In all probability, the iPhone will be available at one price point in India, whether you buy it from Airtel, Vodafone or directly from Apple.

iPhone v2.0, the one we know for sure is being released in June 2008, is a free software upgrade. However, there’s a lot of speculation about the possible release of a new iPhone too.

If the second generation of the iPhone does get released this June, during WWDC, then I'm pretty hopeful that we'll directly jump to that one. As for them dumping retired stock in India, I'm not sure what this accusation is based on but as long as it comes with the standard warranty, I don't really care.
