What is the purpose of neckstrap which come with the earphones?

How are the earphones that come with neck strap different from the regular ones? I have a Transcend MP3 Player which I have problem using it in the pocket. The other day I saw in a video somewhere that a person who was exercising was holding the iPod Nano in some kind of strap around the waist. Is something like that possible for me without having to put it in my pocket?

My Transcend T160 came along with a wrist strap and also a neck strap. To use that wrist strap, you need to use the transparent plastic casing that comes along.

I looked kinda funny when I wore that wrist band of transcend. Only the small strap is enough for me.
