Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
I got some Quaries regarding IDEA GSM & GPRS.
1) I am using BSNL in Lucknow, but want to switch to Idea now cos if I am in some other city then although BSNL network works in roaming which isn't that bad for a stay for 2 or 3 days but BNSL GPRS deosn't work, Since I usually don't have a computer when i am traveling I rely on my Phone to do everything. If I buy a Idea SIM in lucknow, will the GPRS continue to work even if I am in Delhi or Bangalore???
2) Can I use Idea GPRS to connect a computer to internet?

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
1). Yes it would work in all circles where Idea is having its network
2). Net ON Phone works on phone only, but if you want to use it on computer as well , you have to select another plan which has higher rental than NOP

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
Thanks, so If I buy a IDEA Prepaid SIM in Delhi with Lifetime incomin plan & mygang, I will be able to use GPRS even if I am in Lucknow.
Let me inquire about the GPRS plans
One more thing, are there any restrictions in Idea GPRS such as...
1) in case of Vodafone u can only broswe WAP sites & cannot use Opera Mini
2) In Case of Airtel, everything work but I cannnot access my mails via pop3

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
Opera mini works on Airtel Live but to use POP3 access or to be able to download large files you have to subscribe to full-fledged GPRS, like Mobile office in airtel, Vodafone connect on Vodafone.

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
That I know, but this is what I am asking....r there such restrictions in Idea???
I plan to use only GPRS on my phone for 2 months, then use it to browse on my computer too untill I get a full fledged MTNL or Airtel broadband in Delhi.
What is the cost of Airtel Mobile Office per month & can I use it on my computer? Does it supports EDGE service.

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
So, if I am in Delhi which SIM should I take for my K750i so that I can have the following services.
1) Unlimited GPRS in my phone, this I will use for first 2 months.
2) POP3 access of Yahoo Mail & GMail App is good but not a requirment. I can very well check the mails using Opera Mini 4.1 too now.
3) After 2 months when I settle down in Delhi I will take my Workstation there. Then I will need the ability to use Internet of my Mobile phone in my computer. For this how is Indicom Walky or there data card? What speed will I get in it?
Since I will live in either PG or rent means getting a wired broadband connection is not really possible & wireless internet is all I can have.
In septembar I have planned to buy a SE K850i which has edge so then I can switch to Airtel Edge service & use it on my phone as well as computer.
I can pay a maximum of Rs 1000 a month for at least 128 kbps connection. Most of the time I will either be Skyping or Chatting.
Which SIM should I buy in Delhi for these requirments.? I have used Vodafone & just hate there GPRS where U can only browse WAP sites. Airtel Net on Phone is 2nd best & I can live without POP access to Yahoo/GMail. Never tried Idea.

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
1. Unlimited GPRS on phone Airtel Rs. 99pm(EDGE).
2. If you want POP access, the cheapest option would be Vodafone, their plans starts at Rs. 199 pm but no free access. Though they provide a bit faster speed than Airtel, but charges are more.
3. If you want unlimited connection, then Airtel mobile Rs. 500 PM . Else Tata Indicom usb modem(Rs. 325 for 30 free hours in a month, Rs. 500 for 500MB). Vodafone charges too much. Don't go for Reliance.

I have used Airtel before, there NOP plan on this same phone. Other then POP3 access & unability to send MMS to anyone other then Airtel SIM, I like airtel.
Does Idea has any such restrictions?
I will buy the Tata Indocom data card later

Ironic as it may sound, but Dolphin is your best option In Delhi. First its Unlimited Plan costs 350 + Taxes. It is a full EDGE network. After recent upgrades, it is a lot better than Idea. Comes with all ports open. You can access email on phone or PC thru POP. You can also connect the phone to PC and have unlimited net on that too. So that is EDGE network on PC
Here

At the bottom of the page, Plan Option 2
If you want coverage in other cities, this would not work. Max in Mumbai but I do not think anywhere else.

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
^^What would be the utility of unlimited plan if the service is not satisfactory at times. MTNL can't match the quality that is provided by Airtel, though at a higher price

Re: Idea Cellular & GPRS Quary
Its still better than Idea which he originally chose. And the quality has really improved after April 2008 upgrades.
