NOKIA 5700 XPRESS MUSIC REVIEW
Looks :
The Nokia 5700 Xpress Music looks quite cool. This is a phone targeted at the youth. It won't suit business professionals or older people. The phone footprint is quite small. But still you can't call this a slim phone. I got the Black colour which looks superb than the red one. On the front side the Nokia logo is etched on the right side of the screen. The back of the phone holds the Nokia Xpress Music logo.

Design :
The design of Nokia 5700 is quite similar to the Nokia 3250.But due to curvier edges & great use of white colour on the body it looks great. Very shiny indeed. The phone features a twist keypad to switch between different modes like Camera,videocall,music player & smartphone. This rotating keypad is built well by nokia. I have swivelled it quite a lot of times still it is sturdy. So we should congratulate nokia for improving on this front. The older Nokia 3250 mechanism would become somewhat loose after swivelling. The phone has some part of it covered with rubber,so it feels great in hand. You can get a tight grip on the phone for paying games,surfing the web,calling etc. Even in your sweaty or wet hands this phone will remain rock solid,no chance of poping it out from your hand. Only the sore point here is Menu key & Delete key are placed on rubber. So after some year or so the indications will be wiped out. Also these keys do not light up,due to their location. So you will have to keep this phone in some soft case. On this note Nokia also provides a soft pouch with this phone. Was it preplanned??Who knows?? My

Calls & SMS :
I used this phone in Airtel Mumbai network. The call quality of this phone was superb as expected from Nokia. I haven't even missed any calls on this. SMSing on this phone was a pleasure. The phone buttons are slightly raised which offers good comfort while typing SMS. The rubber body provides grip while typing.

Battery Life :
The battery used in this phone is a 900 mah one. I got this phone to work for two days. This is not bad at all. But still a higher capacity one would have been a better.

*Display :
The display of Nokia 5700 is 2.2 inch in size.It is capable of displaying around 16 million colours.This improves movie or videos viewing experience.I loaded some mp4 videos & was stunned with the amazing sharpness & colours.Also on top of the display there is a light sensor which adjusts the display brightness according to ambient lightning.Very useful indeed.Videos can be played in horizontal mode for good experience.

Smartphone :
The Nokia 5700 XM comes with Symbian OS 9.2(S60 v3 FP1). This phone has a 369MHZ processor & 64 MB ram under hood. Out of 64 MB around 20~25 MB is free the rest is loaded by the OS. As expected due to such hardware this phone is lightning fast. I was able to open every menu in a jiffy. I multitasked on this. I opened music player & started browsing the net,still the phone operates fast. Good for multitaskers & gamers.

Music Player :
Nokia promises that 5700 XM delivers crystal clear sound due to the inbuilt DSP chip. I fired up the music player & started listening. The earphones bundled are of Philips inear one which cut out the environmental noise to give you a good listening experience. The sound on default settings was good. But once i changed the equalizer to pop this set rocked. I also tested this set on Sony ericsson HPM – 70 headset, the output was superb. For casual listeners the bundled headphone is good,but for audiophiles i suggest get a good headphone like Creative EP-630. Most of my doubts about the DSP chip like will it be that useful vanished the moment i listened to this set. The loudness of the headphone is enough even in noisest places.I was comfortable hearing them in bus,road junctons,markets. Removed the headset & now it was the time of stereo speakers. The stereo speakers delievered the best output i have ever heard from cellphones speakers. You can actually hear the sound from which channel is is thrown out. But this speakers are not as lound as the ones in N73. I would say they are medium.

Camera :
The Nokia 5700 has a 2 megapixels camera. I decided to shoot some pictures. The results were average i must say.The day pictures were good, but not excellent. In night time the camera is almost useless. The night picture was full of graininess.Also i was getting some weird green colour around the frame in night shots. The LED flash is just for it's sake. For illuminating close objects its good. But most of times it is useless. I tried the night mode. This is the worst i should say. Automatic mode gave me better pic than night mode. Strange.I tried getting a macro shot of my keyboard.
But the picture turned out to be very blurry.Once i changed the default settings, the camera delivered somewhat good results. This bad performance accounts to no autofocus & poor lens used. I am disappointed.

Computer synchronization :
I installed the pc suite which came with the accompanying system on my machine. My machine was a P4 2.0 Ghz ,704 MB RAM & 64 MB via onboard graphics card. I connected the phone to pc using the bundled DKE -2 cable. This cabled is mini USB 2.0 certified.The phone prompted me to select whether to activate Music transfer,pc suite or USB mass storage. Good feature indeed. I tested each of the three options & all worked perfectly. I synced songs to the phone using Windows media player 11 & was successful. Even winamp detected this phone,but i did not synced in winamp. The USB mass storage gives a error if your SMS memory is kept as a memory card.
You have to first Go to Menu --> Messaging -->Options --> Settings -->Other --> Memory in use & change it to phone memory & again reconnect to get it to work. This is good to let you transfer your data without installing pc suite on the host machine. I surfed the net using nokia 5700 on pc ,still with no worries. I am thinking of doing the same in Linux.Help me guys. My

Internet :
I used this phone in Airtel Mobile office. This phone has Class 32 GPRS & class 32 EDGE. This means internet would be fast on this phone than any other. It did. The phone's browser opened most of the sites without any problems. Flash content was also rendered perfectly. Installed mig33,IM+,Morange etc.All of them worked perfectly. The phones keypad provides great comfort while typing. So heavy internet users this phone is for you. Most of the times i am on Digit forum & IM using this phone. My

Browser :
The browser built in this phone is simply superb. It leaves behind all the mobile browsers in speed & rendering. Webpages are rendered fast & in the same manner as you would like to see them & expect them to work. The browser has tabbrowsing which is good. It also has a search feature so that when you click a drop down list in a webpage you can just punch in initial letters & the word is in front of you. No need to scroll down the whole list. Even orkut works perfectly in this browser. Scrapping,posting in forum,uploading all is done with ease. Now there is no need to install third party browser. This is a Big Daddy of all browsers. Conclusion :
This phone is a great buy at it's current price. It has all features which you would expect in this price segment & some more which you won't. Only the camera is disappointment, but you can always buy a separate Digicam for photography. I recommend this phone to all.
