Hi all

Wanted to share some cool modding techniques..

here is wht u can do ..

-MOD your oldage MENU icons to cool looking icons..
-MOD your cam driver for better picture
-MOD your acoustic files for better sound
-MOD Layout so that it doesnt show the network name .. so that u see the wallpaper as whole
-MOD MEDIA PLAYER SKIN(yet to come, still working on)
-MOD the way menu icons are displayed
-MOD the fonts also(this is still in experimental.. few bugs present though)



ok B4 we start anything here .. let me say ..wht u r about to do carries risk.. i will try to be elobrate here so that nothing goes wrong .
but if arent sure ASK HERE.. CLEAR EVERYTHING AND THEN PROCEED


REQUIREMENTS:

data cable
driver (usb)
fully charged phone

Procedure

Here we use XS++ software

/tpa/preset/system/menu is the default path for loading your icons ..


First you will need usb drivers installed: http://rapidshare.com/files/15929980/USBFlash.zip

Extract the USB Drivers to a folder on your computer.

Turn off your K800 (or SE phone). Hold down the "C" button, and while holding it, plug in the cable. A windows prompt will find hardware and will ask you if you want to install it automatically or manually. Use the manual option and browse to the folder where you extracted the usb drivers.

and for db2010 phones its better to use XS++ 1.6.8..but this has not got gdfs backup..
so they need SeTool2 lite..

so db2010 backup gdfs using se tool 2 lite..!

Extract some where say MY documents .
In the XS++ folder, create two folders called

files_to_upload

and

own_custpack

just like this




Now after creating folders as i mentioned run XS++ now. Click Connect and plug the usb cable into the phone while holding the "c" button. Release the c button when XS++ indicates the phone is connected.

The first thing is to select the access method; generally use BreakSX as the wayin. However, to select the wayin, you will need to click into 'Flash' configuration, tick 'customize file system', and then go back to 'settings' and click BreakXS.

Click FSX: any files in the files_to_upload folder will be copied to the phone's internal file system when you click Start FSX. Alternatively add file names and the full pathname using the "add file" button for any files you want to delete.

The files in files_to_upload folder must have the same directory structure as the phone.

For example camera drivers should be saved in

/ifs/settings/camera

within the files_to_upload folder so they will be copied to that same folder on the phone. Menu files need to be uploaded to

/tpa/preset/system/menu

see the structure at the address bar..


Okay, now on to the fun stuff!



Using Your Own Icons

Now I'm not going into the how-to's of photoshopping your own icons, I'm no Photoshop guru, so I'll assume you either made them yourself or downloaded them and they are ready to be used in your menu.

Icons can be named anything you want, as long as the code in menu.ml points to the same name. However SE seem to use the following standard for naming menu icons located within the file system:

'icon1_unselected.png', where "1" is the menu item placement in main menu, and "unselected" is the pos. So the selected icon for the entertainment menu for example, is icon3_selected.png. Note: this is a convention only, it's the code in menu.ml that determines the actual placement not the icon name, but if icon developers use the same standard then it is easier for people to use those icons with their own menu.ml files, because everyone will be using the same naming convention.

So that's it a basic how to on menu modding.

u cant take a backup of your files ...(Still the software is not supported for it .. but it will soon change)

this tutorial is mainly for the db2020 or cid 51/52 phones .. such as k800/k790/w850/k810 and so on...
for others phones ask here and then proceed to MOD...

i am already in it...

i have a k550i flashed to w610i and modded it insanely

but db2020 patching is not yet possible.. for free..
i don't know if there are paid services to do it..!

hey naveen ! XS++ v2.2 is much better and easier !
we can use XS++ 2.2 ! for db2020 download from official website and upload to your esinps..!

we can get it from XS++ official thread ..

no use 6.8 itself.. i think that only supports db2020 or cid 51/52 phones ..

using new version is always better...

We should definitely merge all these threads, there's a lot of good stuff in all of them.

If I remember correctly, there's another method to change the icons, which involves creating shortcuts in the phone memory to point to the memory stick. It's mighty useful if you change icons a lot, but not if you're only going to do it once. If anyone's interested, I'll look it up (Although people will probably know about it anyway.)

why ?? k550i flashing to w610i must be seperate common
even the k750i flashing.. how can this be merged with them..

I was misunderstood. I was referring to all the different threads referring to the same thing, ie customizing. The flashing part is different, fine. But the customization parts can be merged.

Guys i am not able to put the links.i post loads of icons this week end.count on me.and i will also post various other MOD's regarding changing the acoustic and cam driver relates files.
Until then please someone post icons here. Please to refer to my first post and see the HUGE COLLECTION link.it has loads of icons.
I dont know about merging but people who have knowledge in these things can join here and contribute so that all the mod and upcoming new MOD'S can be centralised in one thread.

well u can
u connect phone to XS++ ..

Turn off your phone. Start XS++ . Select USB
Remove the SIM and Memory Card . Reinsert battery.
Click on connect in XS++ and then holding C ( as in SEUS update ) connect your phone to the USB cable ( with in 30 seconds )

and then disconnect.. don't do anything else
it will create a log file .. report that log file

db2020 is new chipset... db2010 is old chipset

just the way u have intel 945 and intel 965 chipsets
