Re: Best Mp3 Player???
Zen Stone comes for around 2.5k. But i'll recommend Transcend T.Sonic 610 2gb. Not only it has double capacity of Stone but also has a display, fm, equaliser and voice/fm recorder. Plus it has good sound quality.

A Rs. 3000/- gets you a Transcend T.sonic 630 4 GB MP3 Player. And its way cooler than the 610. 610's old people, 630's the way to go with add-on playlists under its hood. Not to mention the other improvements as well.
Visit www.transcendusa.com to get more details.

i suggested him to get the 610 so that he has money left to get gud earphones. those bundled with the transcend player are pretty average, and without gud earphones, its no fun

Creative players have much better sound quality compared to Transcend. But with the default headphones you won't notice the difference. About the power adaptor, very few models have it nowadays. Some Sony and Creative models have it.

Hehe I saw that after posting but decided to leave it for fun
And @xbonez the price differences between every model (1 GB and 2 GB I mean) of 610 and 630 is just like 100-200 bucks. He can definitely get 630.
Transcend 630 + EP-630

Re: Best Mp3 Player???
Try the sansa range from SanDisk..I am planning to buy the Sansa e250..2gb with video, photos, fm, memory card slot etc. for arnd 5k which I think is exceptionally good value...they also have a smaller series without the screen which should be around 3k...check it on their website www.sandisk.com & read the review at www.cnet.com...do let us know of ur decision..

there ar the creative ep-630. they're quite gud. i bought them myslef a little while back for rs 875. apart from that there is the sony fontopia range. if u aren't interested in in-ear ones, check out the sony mdr e-828 (rs. 600) or the sony mdr e-829 (rs. 900). i owned the e-828 earlier. the bass and sound quality is gud, the winding case is very useful. but since it doesn't have sound cancellation unlike the in-ear ones, it isn't very gud in noisy environments like buses, trains etc.

It's fine if your budget is not as high as required for an iPod, but seriously dude, iPod has got the best sound quality out there and not buying one cause you don't like iTunes is not at all a good excuse.
If you really reconsider upgrading your budget, then go for iPod. Use Linux if you don't like iTunes.

Re: Best Mp3 Player???
OK, now hijacking the thread (as usual)
Any not-very-costly portable speakers (not ear phones, do not like em) which goes along with the MP3 players you mentioned above ? Need not be the very best, but something decent which does not need a power cable etc, I mean re-charging one. I saw some creative ones in web but no clue about the price.
Any info ?

Thats an overstatement. Players from Cowon, iRiver and Sony have better sound quality than iPods and players from Creative and Samsung provide similar sound quality to iPods. Nokia N91, which is a cell phone, can produce sound similar to iPod. So no way iPods have the best sound quality out there.

Re: Best Mp3 Player???
Well... when I bought one (nano 2GB), I searched for reviews. And after reading the reviews from all the websites I could find.
Apple iPod had the best sound output given that you test all the media players on studio quality headphones. (The ones bundled with iPod are useless, even my planet M headphones sound better than those). AND the checks are done using the best quality audio files available (320kbps for mp3 and wav/aiff files)
Again, those are what reviews say. From my experience, I have found it to be better than N91 and Sandisk. (in fact that was the reason that I agreed to pay a little extra over sandisk). Dunno about the latest version from other companies but the newer iPods are found to be better in terms of noise reduction than the second and fifth generation ones.

Re: Best Mp3 Player???
Since the thread has already been hijacked before
I want to buy the Ipod classic 160 GB . have a few questions though :
() Does the 160 GB ipod have any variants , generation-wise ? ( coz I dont want to be duped by the shopkeeper )
() Are there any similar HDD capacity music players from creative or any other company ?
Thanx .

Re: Best Mp3 Player???
1 - No only the 6th generation iPod comes in 160GB.
2 - I think Archos has one, but they are rather hard to find in India.
If your are in Delhi, you can PM me, I got one on Monday (15 October), you can check mine out.

Caution: Hijacking in progress...
Hey fellas, I'm looking for a small mp3 player for my li'l sis. As its her first, it doesn't need to be too fancy or anything, and 512mb-1gb will do fine. Anything around 1k?

How much does a 512mb T610 come for? I picked up my 2 GB for 2100 or so. And kumarmohit, are you sure that I can't get a branded one for around a K?
