Angry Airtel hikes Mobile Office prices!

This is an sms i received from Airtel today
"Dear Customer, currently you are charged a daily rental of Rs.7 for GPRS. Effective 27 Aug.07. Charges for GPRS are revised to Rs.14.99/day Airtel GPRS is still most economical option for internet access compared to DialUp,Cable etc.If u still wish to deactivate the service, sms GPRSDEACT to 222"
When i started to read this message, i expected to see a drop in price in the current price. But when i saw 14.99/day, my jaw went somewhere in the vicinity of the floor. This is outrageous! How can they do this to us? I've been using MO since past 2 years only because it was super cheap and unlimited. And now they suddenly double the price. What were they smokin? I don't have Ambani for a surname. 15 rupees is way to much. Its even higher than the earlier 12/day rate. I certainly won't be able to afford to pay 15 rupees per day (450/month ). Only option for me is to discontinue MO. No MO, no net. No net, no thinkdigit. It was nice knowing you all.

Even i have been a victim of this situation. There was a time when i used to boast about airtel coz of its gprs being as cheap as 7rs/day and unlimited download. Even though i use a nokia 6600, a stone-age phone as compared to my friends' phones like n73 and w810i, still they ate humble pie when it came to gprs. With airtel gprs, it was literally like "Karlo duniya mutthi mein"...

    Alas those days are gone.......

@charangk- All others are more expensive than Airtel. They charge on the basis of data transfered+monthly rentals. While Airtel only charges on per day basis with no monthly rentals, plus its unlimited.

this was expected. first they scrapped the sms offer, then increased call rates, then lowered the talktime on recharge now even the gprs services are hit! that is bad..and that is really bad. i think we should drag these ******** to consumer court. this is daylight robbery! all service providers are minting money thru the nokia battery enquiry, then they also get to suck the customers on national and state holidays by charging re.1 per sms. cellphone usage is going to dogs in this country!

In Maharashtra except Mumbai they are charging Rs.12/day. It was mere Rs.5/day when I bought my connection with Airtel. But soon they increased it to current rate. So I discontinued using it.

Well!!!! BSNL is d cheapest in Maharashtra. Evn 4 Maharashtra circle airtel must have/must b planing 2 increase d rental.

BSNL offers d same speed, bettr connectivity at just Rs.199/pm for unlimited usage!!! Thnkfully I shifted to BSNL b4 Airtel cud eat into my pocket...

Mumbai ppl must b having something similar to BSNL frm MTNL....

Y dont u ppl try using Maharashtra card in mumbai (after confirming BSNL wont charge roaming GPRS in Mumbai)

Airtel MO SUCKS (as of now) .. my opinion :

2 years ago : Rs 99 INR , unlimited , awesome browsing and downloading .. peaked at around 12-14 KBps with Motorola C350/C650 , and at around 32-34 KBps with Nokia 6681 , ping (some ip i don't remember now) was around 200

after some time : Rs 249 , unlimited , slow browsing , but consistent downloading .. peaked at around 28-30 KBps with Nokia 6681 , ping around 350

after introducing EDGE : same price , unlimited , slow browsing , slow downloading , peaked at around 16-18 KBps with Nokia 6681 , ping around 850

Recent Plan : Rs. 499 , unlimited , slow browsing , slow downloading , peaks at around 14-18 KBps ... donno what happened coz i shifted to BB ..

What a joke .. i presume the next step will be to make the data transfer limited. .. lol ..

I feel that MO speeds have increased sisce yesterday. Usually at night MO would totally stop working due to network congestion. But not since yesterday. I guess they've upgraded the network a bit and thats why hiked their prices. But still 15/day is too much money. Whats the point of improving gprs when half the cutomers have deactivated it?

imo speed increased coz lots of cc are disconneting MO
as number of user decrease : Bytes increase
coz we airtel use dynamic ip... and as per airtel cc exe bytes are shared among the numbers of users are active that time
