AIRTEL (LIVE) GPRS Speeds are pathetic.... comment

dear users,
i have been using airtel for gprs only. from mid december airtel made AitrtelLive work like Airtel Online (ie, full gprs). the first dats were okay... but now the speeds are pathetic... so much so i am unable to check my mail on yahoo through the inbuilt wap browser . today finally i have subscribed for yahoo on Airtellive which is free for 1st month but from next month its Rs.30per month...

is the same problem u r facing too...

is there any outcome... i use karnataka airtel prepaid and my cell is nok6030.

please comment.

btw even my MO speeds r pathetic.. u shd be happy that atleast the page opens in ur case....
AIRTEL SUX... but still it has got the best GPRS schemes in the country...

ya pathics u are right and i am happy to hear that airtel MO has slow speeds also. by the way airtel online has a tarriff of:
rs5 / day

nothing more
u can surf all the wap and web sites

and u are true though airtel has the most attractive gprs plans but i think the royal time is over .. i heard airtel is going to add a price tag to AirtelLive also.. and also its planning to hike the other plan charges... i heard ... information not guranteed... lets see if such a thing happens i would disconnect airtel... theres no other choice...

Yes it really sucks even on Mobile Office. And its the same for the past whole month. It almost seems my 7 rupees per day are going to complete waste. I feel like dumping airtel and going for Hutch. But airtel's gprs is very affordable while Hutch's charges as ridiculously expensive.

hmm.... i agree... i remember that abt 1 yr ago hutch had a rs.99/month unlimited gprs plan... those days were the best... then hutch started data transfer charges and i switched to airtel... now i guess i ll be on MO till 3G comes... n airtel shd really get EDGE in mumbai...

^^ But pathiks, EDGE is available in mumbai. Just use an EDGE enabled handset. You'll see the difference. It get a download speed of around 5 kBps in my QD. Once i used my friend's 6630 and i got a download speed of around 20 kBps. The pages were also loading super fast.
Ya, even i remember the days when hutch (then orange) charged 99 rupees per month. Those were the good days! I used to always have my gprs continuously active. Even mms was completely free! Now they charge 49 rupees per month + 1 paisa/kB browsing charge and mms at 3 rupees. Din dahaade chori !!!

I have similar experience with Airtel live. I had taken Airtel Sim just for using gprs on my W850i ( Call rates are better in Spice in Karnataka ). But the speed I am getting on Airtel live is pathetic. A wap sites, say google, opens up in 10-15 seconds and sometimes it says network connection aborted. I called them up and they blame the network congestion for this. I told them that Hutch has much better gprs service than Airtel, and they told me that Hutch has smaller customer base and blah blah .. Having a bigger customer base doesn't mean that u shud become complacent and cheat them.
Even mobile office service is no better. It is just 1% better than Airtel live.
I am thinking of dumping this Airtel sim if they dont improve before expiry of my current balance.

EDGE based phones will be able to give decent speeds, but the GPRS will give only 15-20 Kbps only and it seems like we are back to ol days of 28Kbps dailup connection.

@krazy did u get a E sign.. Btw wich place has a edge network in mumbai??? I agree that the speeds r better in edge handsets even in normal gprs networks

by the way i haven't called the customer care yet regarding the speeds as i am out of station right now... but will do it as soon as i reach bangalore...

lets see what the hell excuse they give me for slow speeds...

^^ I didn't got an E sign. I don't think nokia phones show an E sign when using EDGE. But the increase in speed was incredible. And its an old fact that both Hutch and Airtel support EDGE in mumbai as well as in other metros and major cities of india. I'm suprised you didn't know that. Just ask a customer card executive of airtel or hutch. They'll let you know about it. And the best part is you don't have to pay extra for EDGE. Also you don't have to be in specific part of mumbai to get EDGE, its available within the entire city. Also in Airtel, you don't have to activate EDGE separately, like you have to in Hutch. It gets available automatically if you use an EDGE enabled handset.

i know u dont hav to pay extra for it.... but afaik ther s no EDGE network in mumbai.... can u jus tell me where (wich place) in mumbai do u think ther s an edge... i wd like to go there n try myself.....

^^ I live in Vile Parle and this is where is used EDGE. But as i said before, it can work anywhere in mumbai. Just use your sim in an EDGE enabled handset and you'll see the difference. Pages load as if the servers as right in your handset! No kidding! Opera mini loads pages as if on fire! 100+kb pages in under 2-3 seconds! If this isn't EDGE, i don't know what is.

guys i am using W810i in Pune.. Its edge enable and yeah i even get E sign above coverage....But i must agree wid you ppl that speeds have a big drop since last month or a fortnight....Dammit....Even wid Edge..the pages dont open most of the times...forget downloading speed..

Before a month everything was cool....in day times pages opened lil late and d/l speed of 10-15kbps....in nite times pages super fast and speed of 25-30kbps...

and now in day is TOTAL DUD...@nite download speed of 12-14kbps..and pages open slowly....

I guess i need to complain at CC....but then ...i think it would be total waste..!!

and ppl...am payin bloody 12rs/ day..here@Pune.. am hostelite so cant get BSNL landline..i would have shifted to Dataone...bloody ppl upgraded 256Kbps connection to 2MBPS

airtel sucks! and sucks. i'm too from karnataka and in my place it takes around 1 to 2 min's just to open google home page after several refreshes! i'll call today the customer care and see what they say.

lol.... wen 90% ppl used to use airtel live (wit 2apn/mms trick) free of cost... the speeds were awesome...

am using k750i am getting 7Kbps at night and 5.5 Kbps at days
Rs 20 per day and Rs 375 per month in Tamilnadu Airtel

^^ the internet browsing speeds are kind of better on pc. i used airtel in chnnai, it used to give nearly 15-20 kpbs on pc, but on the phone is was miserable. and yes it is one of the most expensive places to have a airtel gprs connection. but in hyderbad i used to have a rs. 500 p.m connection (some time earlier.
