Airtel users in Alipore area(Kolkata) please reply

Airtel users who are using a EDGE phone like Nokia 3250, 6630,6020, 3230, 6681 etc , Samsung X700 and other EDGE enabled phones please reply.

I want to know if you get only GPRS speeds(max 48 kbps) in this region or EDGE speeds(for class 10 EDGE 236.8kbps) because I have heard that there is a EDGE tower in this area. I am thinking about buying an EDGE phone and I will mainly use it for surfing the net. If you can , can you please connect your phone and use it to surf the net through your PC and report to me the speeds.
If you want to know how to connect to net using phone, write "fooling Airtel GPRS" as the search word in Google and click on the first link.
If people say that they don't get EDGE service in this area, I will not buy an EDGE enabled phone and look at buying SE K750i.

Well aritrap although i'm not from your palce i would like to suggest you to go for a EDGE enabled phone.I have seen that the data rate is gradually much more than that of a normal GPRS enabled phone.I would recommend you that you pick up the Nokia 3250.

I agree with kirtan,go 4 a edge enabled set so dat u'll be able to use edge when offered by Airtel.Dont buy 3250,it has probs with rotating keypad.Consider Nokia 5500,6233

What do you think about the Sony Ericsson W600i. My budget is around Rs.11000. I was thinking about buying the Nokia 6630, but I heard that Nokia has stopped production. Now I was thinking about the 6681, but it is very bulky and dosen't have a great sound like that of the W600i. I am also thinking about the Samsung X700 as it has expandable memory.

What do you think.
