Please help, unable to use my microphone

Hi,

My system configuration is -
Intel pentium 4 2.8 Ghz
Intel Desktop Board 915 GAV
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver ( codec - Realtek ALC 860 )

Now whenever I try to use my microphone in any program, my system just restarts. Although there is no problem, when I connect microphone to my system. And even sound comes out from my speaker, when speak into microphone. But not been able to use microphone through any software (like for recording or chatting purpose.)

I think the driver has been the culprit for my problem. But I'm using the same driver supplied with motherboard. I really don't know whether I have to configure certain thing to make microphone work.

Please help ...... I'm desparately needing it.

yes there is configuration from control pannel. there is your audio driver file open then see in
setting of what no of channel selected also there is it show on which pin you connect your headphone.
