How can we know if we have original itouch? A friend's selling his iPod touch but not sure if it's original (it looks like it). Thanks!

Go to sttings and look into device info.
Although simple physical appearnce is more than enough for most fakes.

is it 3G or 4G?
also check the firmware version & serial no....

Even I was also not knowing that how to check whether an ipod is original or duplicate. From this post I get and idea that how to check. Thanks for sharing such useful information.

Packaging they copy ditto, once someone tried to sell me a fake iphone, looked exactly like real, screen was no low res, plastic back was not cheap. But the screen was resistive touch, and it had java apps installed , lol

Take a laptop to your friends place before buying and have iTunes installed. Plug in the device. If device is recognised then that would make everything crystal clear.

Yes, when you're noob, it's very hard because they look like the same!

My laptop now seems gonna have its last breath and I just want to make sure that my brother's iPod is backup. Can you suggest ways to do that on our laptop? I am not sure though, because I read that iTunes will erase my files? Any thoughts?
