Need a phone around 5k.
So, like the title says, I need a cellphone for my sis.
I'm using mobile opera for surfing so cant fill the questionnaire, but i'l try to mention all the specific details.
.
My budget is 5k (+1.5-2k if its really worth it).
Display should be as big as possible in a bar/slide type, numpad cellphone. Absolutely no touchscreen. Qwerty keypad will do if that does not compansate with camera quality or user interface.
Currently, i'd put my stakes on symbian nokia, but if there's some model for reputed companies that provides better features with easy user-interface (definitely not samsung) then please let me know.
Connectivity, applications provided and camera should be top notch that'll be within my mere underwear budget, with more emphasis on camera (pixel, flash, bla bla) than former two.
.
The phone would probably be used for making calls and txting (dud!) apart from as a music player, camera, and possibly for surfing net.
.
I hope i gave enough info.
I dont have any phone pointed at as such so my research will start from scrach with help of you guys.
.
If you're posting something useful, thank you in advance.
If you stumbled upon here random clicking anywhere and have no valuable info as such, then dude, get a life.

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
^^ a good camera mobile with simply-to-use features & UI is Nokia X2. and for girls, who don't like fiddle with every avl setting or go on exploring all the hidden features, Nokia S40-S60 looks best.

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
If you're looking for s60 based phone:
1. Nokia C5 - 3 MP camera without flash. I found the d-pad horrible to use (being extremely thin), other keys are large enough and comfortable to use. It will cost about Rs. 7500.
2. Nokia 5230 & 5233 - Both have almost same specs. except that the former supports 3g & gps, hence costs 1k more than the latter. The 5233 would cost about Rs. 6000. However, you've crossed out touchscreen, so these don't seem to be an option.
There aren't any other s60 based phone in this budget.
The best cameraphone in this price range would be the X2. It has a 5MP camera with LED flash. However, its keypad is dreadful for texting & its OS is Java-based s40.
You've crossed out Touchscreen as well as Samsung, which makes me unable to suggest you Corby phones. There aren't any phones in this price-range which satisfies all your needs (I have no idea about Indian brands so let others suggest them).
My recommendation would be to revaluate your needs & see which is the most important out of them. Then check below.
1. Best Camera - Nokia X2
2. Best app. support - Nokia c5, 5230, 5233
3. Best for texting - Nokia c3(s40, wifi, qwerty keypad) , Nokia c5
4. Big screen - Nokia 5230, 5233, Samsung Corby phones (touchscreen)

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
^^^ok...
That was detailed enough.
.
While we are at it, can you name some cellphones from companies other than nokia that are user friendly and un-tacky...
Just to compare worthwhile products for best pick.

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
Sony ericsson cybershot c510..is the phone ur sister needs as per the requirements u stated..
solid , good cam , great features.
c510

3G , cam : 3.15 MP, Autofocus, LED flash ,solid body , great music playing capabilities.etcc
vs
nokia c5

good build quality , 3g , gps , cam: 3.15mp , FIXED FOCUS . led flash .
No need to remind u that auto focus is damn superior to fixd focus cam (even if the MP counts are high)
now you decide which "c" to get ( c5 or c510)
if u get c5 u sacrifice on cam , while on c510 , GPS (and nokia fanboyism )

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
Almost all foreign phone companies are trying their best to make the user-interface as easy as possible. (This is where the Indian brands need to concentrate rather than increasing the number of sim-card slots.)
The user interface on Samsung's Touchwiz as well as Bada are great. I am happy with my Samsung Champ (A review coming soon! on this forum)
The interface of new S60 phones have improved too but the functionality remains almost the same.
The Sense UI on HTC smart also looks great.

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
^^ I beg to differ. I haven't found any (free or paid) java app. which can read pdf or office files. If you know any, please let me know. Java cannot simply beat Symbian OS.
The c510 as well as c5 costs well above the OP's budget. Let the OP decide now.
P.S - While looking for sony-erricson, I bumped up on a model Cedar 3g, looks well promising.

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
"MobilePDF Reader".. it can be installed on java mobile..
while about the hanging thing ... there are many issues even with nokia c5. claimed on the Nokia Forum's ( no mobile is Perfect).
BTW : NOkia c5 : 7.2k
SE c510 : 7.5k
as OP said no need of Heavy app installations ..
c510 is great ( for the given requirements of OP) coz of excellent UI , CAM , Solid build ...as OP's requirements are..

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
^^ I have tried the "Mobile PDF" on several phones & it fails to work on all of them. This is due to memory limitations of low-end phones. And what about Office ??
The OP in his first post asked for a phone which supports many apps. In the above post, he is saying the opposite. I request the OP to clarify his exact requirements as well as the max. budget.

.
.
And even with that, the 'application' word was brought into use cause quite frankly I thought we were speaking of pre loaded apps.
.
Btw, why the heck are we argueing for pdf reader.
I am pretty sure the most important applications will very less clicked on, let alone a pdf reader.
.
Anyways, so should i shortlist these two phones or are there any other models worth mentioning.

Re: Need a phone around 5k.
^^ I apologize for arguing over pdf. I just want to press my point that there is no reason to buy a Java-based phone which costs over 5k.
I again ask you to clarify your budget. The phones mentioned are well above the budget in your first post.
