Yamaha has a free tool to convert WAV to SMAF (.mmf) format. Download it here.

Hint - Open you're Mp3 file with a sound editing app like Soundforge (demo available). Resample it to 8000Hz (8Khz). Trim, loop and do any other necessary editing and save it as a WAV.
