Default Doubts about airtel gprs...

I am from chennai and how is the data transfer in chennai???.... heard that the speed is just 1KBps... is that true?

I have enabled Airtel Live on my moto e398 to test the speed, but i always get the message as "Data Server not available"....

I have the following settings... is it correct...
Name: Airtel Live
HomePage: http://live.airtelworld.com
Service Type: WAP
Gateway IP: 100.001.200.099
Port: 9021
DNS: 000.000.000.000
Speed(Bps):9600
Line Type: Modem
GPRS APN: airtelfun.com

I havent given the username and password... is that reqd?

Is the Line Type Modem or ISDN?

I thought of getting gprs but since even airtel live is not working i havent activated gprs....

Any users of Airtel GPRS - How is the speed?
Any Motorola users: Is the settings correct... help me with it....

One more final question.... Does the speed of GPRS depend on the strength of the signal???

..

here is the I think most experienced net user of GPRS ....

I have used simple GPRS.. now using EDGE .. sorta fast GPRS..

So here is the deal..

first you have to ask your Airtel people that do they provide internet access on PC via GPRS or not..

If answer is ...

a) No. ... then forget all..

b) if yes.. then..

then you have to first make sure that your phone support GPRS modem.
Again..
b.a) If No.. then get another phone which supports it.
b.b) If yes then find the option where you give GPRS MODEM APN .

Ask your CC (customer care) for APN for accessing pc on net. (it mostly differs from APN for WAP). and to access pc on net .. you only need one thing..correct APN ...

Now connect your ph. to PC using bluetooth(if it suports) or Cable (dont' use IrDa .. its sucks). Now create dialup connection .. set your phone as Modem and look for *99***1# as No. (no user name and pass is required) but i think dialup No. is diff. for motorola.. its actually called CID .

!!!

Now.. all your settin you have showed are for surfin over phone only..
there you have to give Ip properly that is..

100.1.200.99
port is i think 8080

about dns etc.. I think I donno much about ur phone..
Also if there is any option like database bearer then set it as "GPRS"

Now.. on somehow good condition the GPRS you get around 5 Kbps speed that is 40 kbps..

About signals and speed..
yes it depends a little on it..

It don't works on weakest signal.. still you can make call on that..

So gprs works well on medium to high signals.

for getting settings on ur mobile u can simply send msg MO to 501 which stands for their settings "mobile office". u ll soon get a service setign n it has an option to save. save it n activate it (in case its not activate auto sometime).
Thats it, u can check by surfin on mobile, open google.com, if it works, get hooked to ur comp n follow instructions given above.
