SE W580i update failed, phone dead

As the title says, the SE update software downloaded the firmware and then when installing said installation failed. now the phone is dead. Any help? Tutorials?

simple solution

1. download XS++
2. download sony ericsson SEMC drivers
3. go to iprotebe.cz and download w580 MAIN and FS ... choose APAC FS if u want all asian languages
4. Connect ur fone by pressing and holding C after starting XS++ (remove and reinsert batt before this)
5. flash wid the main and FS u jus downloaded
6. this process will take 10mins ... donot disconnect until asked to do so
7. start ur fone and u are good to go

PS : go to se-nse4 and use the XS++ tutorial for screenshots
: ensure that u get the main and FS of the same version ... that is both shud have same numbers like R6BC001 etc etc
: u have to register at iprotebe.cz to download files
: click on the american or uk flag to change to english language at iprotebe.cz
: u will get XS++ , SEMC driver files at esnips ... else google

USB SEMC? Have that installed.Still nothing. As a matter of fact, the update started only after me installing those flash drivers. So anything else that I can do?

then there is nothing u can do ... did u remove the battery , reinsert it ... then hold c while connecting ?

but its really difficult to brick a db2020 fone while flashing ... so when u turn it on , do u get a blinking white screen ?

Sorry, now this is advanced repair case. Manually raw flashing gdfs area, erom area.

Still connect and check.
BTW SEMC USB FLASH Drivers have already been installed on your PC. SEUS does it before updating.

If EROM is dead, probably is unless luck, and also phone has warranty, then guaranteed SE Service Center will give you new phone.
If no warranty and dead EROM. Make place for it in your dust bin.

Connect to XS++ or SeTool2 lite or jdflasher holding 2+5. Its state will be out!! If its completely dead or still has something.
In which case just 5 minutes repair by service center ! Else as said above, look no further.

Its out of warranty how does one determine that its become a dead duck. And how does it become a dead duck?!

how do i come to know wether XS++ has detected it? ANd how do I do this? Like hold 2+5 and then press what in XS++?

PS: When I connect it, the USB Flash drive does show but nothing actually after that.

Connected with the 2+5 combo, but it keeps giving me Driver not found error. What driver is it looking for? Also, XS++ keeps giving me connection failed error.

This is what I get in SETool always after stopping a process:

Zero battery or Phone not powering up.
Simply put, EROM is dead.
Also you clicked abort right!!?? Did you try connecting via 2+5 ? No response again ?

Try again, XS++ 3.1 should at least identify baseband and you should get following out put if you connect holding 2+5! XS++ does not need any special drivers. IT should work if SEUS or setool2 lite works.

This is minimum response for which a dead phone can be repaired !

Finally, some batches of w580 suffer from manufacturing defects, 1000s of w580 have been replaced because of dead EROM's. This issues is very common, only with w580 users.

And don't give up, go to service center, they will try to fix it by flashing EROM. Which might work depending upon the extent of damage to EROM.
If those Idiots and lazy they won't try it all, they will replace main circuits and that will cost maybe 6k-7k !

ROFL!! Your phone is working and is 100% intact with no damage, And we thought it was totally dead and not connecting to USB. But its connecting well.

just needs a reflash now.
Download firmwares from SEUSERS.COM or TOPSONY.COM or ESNIPS.COM (Search function use)

You should download R8BE001 GENERIC MAIN w580, R8BE001 though outdated, but better supported by the community. And works great. Plus lots of patches and also elves for R8BE001.

And download ASIA LEVAN R8BE001 FS.
Then download ASIA LEVAN CDA(custpack) (Any Revision) but should be asia levan.

Then follow this tutorial!

Given it to the Sony guys, apparently they haven't been able to figure out what's wrong ... I just hope they don't screw it up.

@akshay thanks for the confirmation, fingers crossed. THough I've downloaded that jdflasher thing, the UI is somewhat pre-historic & I was searching for the firmware, will check the links you've mentioned.

Am sorry for you, I hope its a authorized service center with some decent service guys. Else its screwed !
If you give your phone and ask for re-flash, then it costs 300Rs.

If just you give your phone and tell them to fix it, then depending upon the level of corruption, It will cost you anywhere between 300-6000 !

Gave it to an authorized service center, waiting for an estimate, either too many screwed up SE phones or not so great service.

The SE guys said it's a mobo issue & are billing me 4500/- I brought the phone back, fortunately, XS++ still shows the same stuff as posted above, so I guess they haven't screwed it up.

I will follow the above steps.
