Internet on phone, hype or reality?
Hi folks,
I was wondering about email on phone and the whole concept of internet phones etc. Its possible to network, browse and upload to the internet while on the move but at the same time some consider it a hype, a gross un- necessity! what do YOU think?

Re: Internet on phone, hype or reality?
Are you crazy ? Mobile internet is the next big thing in mobile. Just look at homescreen on N97 , imagine how it'd look without internet ? Twitter would be nothing if there were no mobile internet. Imagine a blackberry without internet.
It is more relevant in india becuase to many people mobile is the only way to connect to internet.

Re: Internet on phone, hype or reality?
^^^at what cost......i am not going to pay Rs.25 per day or 50 paise for 100 kb download
We will get benefit of all this mobile internet only if prices decreases and speed increases....

Re: Internet on phone, hype or reality?
I use Internet on mobile only sometimes. Surfing is more enjoyable on a big screen (Desktop/Laptop).

Rs25 per day is not that bad either. Considering two hours at cybercafe will spend you more. monthly charges at 500 UNLIMITED is also not bad compared to bsnl's rs750 at 256kpbs.
Btw , i am using bsnl's 152 pm for unlimited including tethering. Crazy cheap.

Re: Internet on phone, hype or reality?
yup ur 152 pm is really cheap...
but 25 per day makes 750pm and that too for a not even 128kbps used to get 4KBps download speed
I am ready to pay 750 for a 3g connection.
Opening a orkut site will cost me 2-3 Rs alone using that 50ps per 100kb...NOT WORTH

Depends on location and handset. Speed as high as 30kBps is available at some places.

Then y not buy chinese mobile ? Even larger screen and speaker.
Frankly most smart phone feature is useless without internet. No email , no rweeter , no ota software update , no online sync , no chat .

Re: Internet on phone, hype or reality?
look I agree that there r soo many net features in mobile....and if u can pay hefty amount and bear with the slow speed...u can use all that
BTW y do u praise N82...for its connectivity options like chatting
what comes to ur mind 1st when we talk abt ipod touch or Iphone....music or its browser

Yeah camera is most important part of n82 , but data is also very important. Just look at blackberry , they now have 50% marketshare in us ! Some people do need connectivity over camera or music(blackberry suck at both you know). Also n97 is marketed as 'social networking device !' imagine social netwoking without net. And remember n97 is new flaghip.
Data cost , if you try yoj can find a good one under 300 , which is not bad in my opinion. The upa government fcuked the mobile industry to exhorbitant price thats another story , but data plan is needed to enjoy new gen smartphones.

Maybe blackberry is for corpoate , but as i said , 50% marketshare is no joke. Also blackberry is outselling iphone in us and worldwide.
Its all abt preference .. One size doesn't fit all.
And yeah airtel sucks at data rate.try bsnl , much reasoable.
