Google maps & MY location (beta)

Hi Guys,
The Google maps application runs fine on my Pocket Pc which is a Samsung i-710,
I dont have the GPS hardware on my fone.
The new Google maps app. promises that i will track ur position even if you dont have the GPS. For it it has "My location (BETA)" but when ever i try to enable the service it says that your fone is not supported for the My Location application.

Is is that its my fone which is errorneous or the problem lies with the Airtel network which i am using. Can any1 tell me what are the requirements for My location

can you please send me the link to download google maps application onto my comp and then i will transfer it to my mobile (HTC touch)
do we need net to use GPS? any idea?
