internet connects but still no net !! ?

i dnt knw how it hapened but it hapened.. i connect to internet thru my bband and it shows connected in the tray... but when i try to open any webpage in IE or firefox , it shows cant open error as if no net is present..i tried pingin yahoo.com and it got pinged succesfully....
i hav a dual boot wid both 2 as XPs pro...in 1st XP, net works fine so dat means no problem wid net connection..
so cants figure wat is wrong in 2nd XP.. tried everything..opening ports, reinstalling drivers,,, chekin IE options...
does any 1 hav a clue?

ok guys, dis is the new advancement... i used winsock fix utility.... now dis happens...i hav zonealarm pro installed on dis pc....the ping started to work finw after winsock util used, ...but bband connection says connected but still no website opens in ie , firefox or maxthon.. but ping works...
but if i shutdown zonealarm , it works immediately and fine.... now most of u guys wud say dat zonealarm is causing all dis... but there is a twist...
if i disable zonealarm from msconfig, then on restart still no net works.... so dat means i hav to enable zonealarm for startup, and then disable it manually everytime so as to make my net work...
i even used hijack dis to find any suspicious entries but there were none...
any suggestions?

ok guys...here comes the end to dis painful saga...

the corrupter was indeed ZONEALARM..
i figured using hijackdis that vsmon.exe service was doin all dis
.. .when i disabled zonealarm from msconfig, it only stopped zclient.exe but not vsmon.exe... but when i manually shutdowned zonealarm, it closed both zclient.exe and vsmon.exe ...
so now finally i disabled them both and net works fine again )))

and i uninstalled zonealarm frm my pc... now net everywhere...
