Default Making Forum?

Ok i work for a company. And recently we thought to make a forum where our members can post events and other things and i got the responsibility to make the forum. But i don't know much about the forum. So, i was wondering how can i make the forum, or where can i buy one...which runs for long run....? Pls reply ASAP. Thanks in advance.

phpBB would be a good choise for you... or as for company so opt for vBulletine... http://www.vbulletin.com/ its a paid forum software same a Digit, they do provide paid support too, so as a new comer but a company in back of you I would say opt for vbulletine and then their paid installation option too

MAX of 10mins if you have a boardband connection to run daily updates... !!! now if you have a Forum as big and large as ThinkDigit then you may have to download few GBs as forum DB each day

but usually forum as u descrybed would have DataBase under 10 MB so after ervy thing is set up all you need to do is log in to vb admin panel and download the back up for the DB at every night

you can even give a try to PHPBB 3. Get everything clear on free script..and than go for a paid script. Installation of any script is very easy.

And remember to choose good hosting company to host your forum, because busy forum need lots of bandwidth and 99.9% uptime.

I suppose since his company wants a forum, they must be having nice servers of their own. So I don't think hosting is a worry here.

But vbulletin is much better and easier to handle. Especially installing mods where very less manual work is required.

I would suggest a Owned License which costs 160$ and 35$ from subsequent year only if you want to get it updated.
And for installation by the vbulletin team, I guess their price is a bit steep. You can take our help for installing vbulletin. It isn't very difficult.

1. VBulletin costs 160$ for lifetime. You only pay later for suppport, if needed that is.
2. People sell owned licenses for as low as 80$-100$ on some forums when they give up on forum.
3. Installing vBulletin is peice of cake Just read the manuals

we were using this but the spam control is very very very poor
u get hundred of unnecessary post every day and in 3 days of site set up there were around 1000 registered users
all fake...

so really think before you go for it...

i think vbullet.. is bit expensive from standard here...

so ...investigate on your requirement and go for it...

by the way as one user suggested is there any place or forum where we can buy vbullet license for lower prices..given up...
getting legal version...
do they allow domain name change...?

vbulletin licenses can be transferred. You can buy vbulletin license for cheap from Digitalpoint or Namepros forums. But then you may not get 1 full year of support since they made it cheap just because some time has expired.

But be sure to verify he is selling a original license, namepros and dp both have process to get license verified by mods. Ask the seller for proof of license.

And don't buy leased licenses...since vbulletin does not allow transfer of leased licenses.

Owned licenses can only be transferred after 60 days of purchase. And If somebody has a transferred license, he can only transfer it to somebody else only after 1 year.
