May be You require to tweak your system network settings like TTL etc., and your also tweak your browser.

There are lot of utilities to tweak. This also can be done manually.

disable firewall (( of XP))

check if the line has noise or disturbance,as it can slow down ur connection,

remove temp internet files, cookies, clear history, clear SSL state, clear autocomplete enteries.

run ad-aware nd spybot, having upgraded their sig files to the latest

try the speed on sum other browser i.e. like firefox..

go to cmd prompt nd type ipconfig -flushdns

run > msconfig > startup tab > remove unwanted enteries except those related to antivirus

try to connect with crossed fingers...................

"Assumption is mother of all F#@k ups".

Its totally impossible to analyze and diagnose your problem its could be anything from hardware to software anamoly. Virus ; registry problem plus you never gave your Hard Disk free space; how is the general Performance of your system; what bout your hardware cable quality & length; signal strength ; then no. of programs you run at same time(active tasks) cause doesnt matter what hardware you have they all have their limits; mate I can go on but am a lazy typist sorry have to stop soon before my fingers get a cramp or something . But on serious note check this site out www.pcpitstop.com you can actually park your system here it is a fine site can analyse many problems for a system like virus ; spyware optimization ; its free; maybe when you come come out of the pit you mite feel like Schumacher or atleast Barrichalo. But best option will be to call a professional (a computer professional i.e. )
