Help me build a pc within 12k...

One of my friends is assembling a pc for casual use at home..his max budget is 12k..
plz suggest a gud config which can be used for running windows-xp...
he needs a DVD-Writer in his config....plz help.

12k is a bit tight... You can go for Sempron LE 1200+ with Asus M2A-MX combination (3800/-) or Intel Cel 1.8 GHz with Gigabyte 945 based motherboard (4300/-)... You can go for Sony DVD Writer, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 80 GB HDD, Basic Cabinet model, and local kb and mouse... These together will come to around 9k (assuming the AMD approach)... If you get monitor 15" from cheaper brands like Zebronics, it will cost another 3.2 k... Then, UPS will set you back by 2k... So, without UPS it will come slightly more than 12k... With UPS, it will come near 14k...

and add 200 and get Palit 610i instead of 945GC. Its worth it. Save money by replacing kbd/mouse with logitech basic, @ 500. it has no multimedia keys though.

Get a dual core atom with 945GC. I think it costs 3.5K. save 1K
And remove R-10 and replace with philips SBC9630 earphones for Rs. 50. save 350.
remove multimedia kbd/mouse and replace with logitech basic combo for 500. save 300.

you save enough for 1k dvd writer.
remaining is 650 saved. add more and get 80 or 160gb hdd.
