Re: Which 42" display to buy?
Actually 1080p is full HD.
1080i is interlacing.....
1080p is progressive.....
1080p is better.

Re: Which 42" display to buy?
sony bravia has the best picture quality and color reproduction, but the higher price they charge may not be justifiable for some people.

Re: Which 42" display to buy?
yeah Toshiba/Sharp isn't poplar enough in India for good customer support...don't risk it.
im no pro at this but if you have the xtra cash go for BRAVIA or else Samsung is really good.
btw take a look at Philips too....ive read that they have some really good models.

Re: Which 42" display to buy?
I found a model by Philips whose price and specs you will like Widescreen flat TV 42" LCD Full HD 1080p -- Philips website link
42PFL7482/98 -- Compareindia Link
Price is 59,500 as per compareindia
Besides Samsung and SOny LG is another best on which you can vouch for.

Re: Which 42" display to buy?
three models picked in the end:
1) Samsung - LA46A550P1 : 80k
2) Samsung - LA40A610 : 66k
3) LG - 42LG80FR : 78k
LG has better color reproduction and 5 speakers, 500W against 200W offered by samsung models.

1.how can u say LG has good color reproduction ..?
2.i don't think its choosing for more sound is good idea for a TV and its 500W PMPO ..don't know rms wattage so its misleading anyway.
3.samsung the model @80k is 46 inch compared to LG's 42 inch.
with a TV like that u need to have a HD-DVD or blue ray player ..which comes with a nice optical output for amplifiers coupled with surround sound system ..so i guess sound should not be of any issue here
i guess out of the three samsung 46" would be my choice ..

Re: Which 42" display to buy?
^^
1) 50W RMS when compared to 20W of other TV's
2) yes. the LG 80 comes with 3D comb filter which means that Standard Definition video will be much more clean on this model than on 46" samsung (doesn't have 3D digital comb filter)
3) LG has an extra center channel for audio (below the screen) which is a definite advantage.
A 3D Y/C (also known as 3D Digital Comb Filter) is the best type of comb filter available today. In addition to separating the Y (black and white) and C (color) elements of a video signal, a 3D Y/C filter performs two additional key functions. While comparing three consecutive horizontal scan lines within a single video frame, it also analyzes each frame in advance, ensuring the best possible picture.
and of course, it's LG Scarlet series and looks stunning.
I am not saying that it's on a different league
given the same price price point, this particular model has an advantage on audio and video playback. And it's thin bezel is pretty catchy.

Re: Which 42" display to buy?
no doubt scarlet series looks good ...
and couldn't find exactly if samsung has it or not cos many lower screen size of samsung does have it ...so don't know why this higher screen model doesnt have it ..
but still even having all those technologies doesn't make a product good (its implementation does)..samsung 46" has good really good user response ..(both samsung models are one of the top user reviewed model on amazon)...don't know about LG ...couldn't find it there
(still i don't think that makes it really a bad product ) ..but people in US mostly use HDTV it might be not as good as our local cable or DTH services...but sometime soon HDTV will come to india ..perhaps then this samsung model will be good ..i hope ..
best thing in my opinion would to be drop in a show room and decide which looks great ..picture quality wise along with ur friend ..u have already narrowed it down to three now u can have a look which one performs better in real ...
and do tell us what u choose ...and how is it ...we would like a review from u ..

Re: Which 42" display to buy?
well LG Scarlett series 80 is very good,
the contrast of Sony monitors in general is high,
as per my experience Samsung and LG have better color reproduction than Sony

If not yet bought I can recommend the Samsung 5 series too. I have a 32 5 series full HD as my operating room monitor and its fantastic. Great colours and contrast.
