Help: FSB-667 MHz 0r 800 MHz???

I'm planning to buy a Dell laptop

The RAM for which is 3GB and with FSB 667 MHz

There are two intel C2D processors available (customizable) . One with FSB 800 and other with FSB 667 MHz

The processor with FSB 800 will cost an additional 2500 rupees(around) to me.

Is there any relation between FSB of processor and RAM?

My doubt is that, anyway I'm not going to upgrade RAM, RAM is only 667, so if I take the processor with FSB 800 will it be a waste?

yes but not that as u think.

If u buy CPU with 800mhz FSB the base fsb will be at 200Mhz coz its quadpumped.
Now if u use 800MHz DDR2 ram ur base ram clock will be 400(mem clock=200Mhz) coz its dual pumped.
All ur interest lies in matching or improving the FSB : DRAM speed ratio.

Here we would get 1:2 ratio which is more than enough coz for every cpu clock ram is working for 2 clocks.

Since u have DDR2 667mhz ram u can go with 667FSB CPU coz base FSB = 167Mhz
and base ram clock = 333Mhz.

Still u r getting a ratio of 1:2 which is more than enough.

Now if u buy 800Mhz FSB cpu and use with ur 667mhz ram then ur ratio will be 200:333 which is near about 2:3 which is still better than 1:1 but not much better than 1:2.

Any day a ratio of 1:1 or better will yeild max system performance.
