Default Modem

I'm using a usb frontech modem(VD56US) with winXP in my pc, the modem speed varies from around 40kbps to 45.2kbps.But in my office PC I'm using an external D-link modem DFM-562E(V.92 56000bps) and the speed is about 115 kbps. Is it bec' of the modem or phone line that I'm getting this difference in speed? Will I get faster speed if I use the D-Link modem in my pc? If so can any one recommend a better modem.

Check if the Office internet connection is faster than what you have in your home. But I wonder if the D Link modem can only manage 56kbps, how can the speed be 115kbps in office ?

A phone line on dial up connection can at the max give 56 kbps.
The 115 may be configured but won't be possible in reality I guess.

Also if you are getting 40 kbps..you phone line is in good state. Sometimes due to moisture or other disturbances the negotiated speed could be just 20 to 30 kbps.
