laptop booting problem

Friends i have HP compaq v2000 modle.It suddenly fails to boot and giving blue screen at start with message "config_list_failed" now friends my main problem is that my dvd writer also not working and in bios there is no any option to boot from usb drive. I want to ask how can i solve the problem i dont want to purchase dvd drive yet.So my question is that can i install window by open its hardisk and fit into a casing and install window by that mean will it work? Have you any such experience please guide me as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.

without the dvd drive or cd drive..how can you use recovery console of windows xp?

press F12 while booting with the bootable USB pen drive or whatever connected then you might be presented with an option to boot from it.

as for taking it out to install windows xp using a desktop? it might not work when u connect back to laptop and you still might have to do a repair install to make it work..

if you can get hold of an external dvd drive or a casing for the dvd drive.....if it come to this then i think you need to send it to the HP service center for them to better tackle your problem..

Thanks for ans. How can i make my simple pen drive as a bootable disk. Is there any special method to do so or just copy window from bootable cd and paste it onto pen drive.will it work and yes there is option of network when i press f12.whats its mean can i boot it from another computer through network. Please help me out.

i think there is a special way to do that..i havent done installation of windows xp from USB but only tried about booting from it and running windows xp from it...long time ago in computer time..

there might ba installation over network..i am not sure about it..

the easiest way is to get hold of an external dvd/cd drive somehow..or use the casing if at all available for optical drives...

thanks for answer one more thing to discuss that when i try to boot it from a pen drive it gives message invalid media press any key.thats mean it can boot from pen drive also is it write if it gives that message please give me answer here.i m confused now.thanks in advance.

yes..the usb pen drive is not made bootable and it is not in a format which it can recognized so that message..

the PE referred to is BartPE which is a slim down version of windows xp...

thanks friend i m trying its very complex procedure for me but i m still trying,i want BootSDI.img file but not able to create it the file which amalux given here could'nt able to download from net becuase i m using Airtel MO.(speed problem).

so please guide me here can i able to make boot image with another software which suites to me.

Its very sad for me i could'nt able to make a single pen drive as a bootable.i tried most of methodes from bootdisk.Com/pendrive which are without floppy disk but all are useless.I tried hard today to make a pen drive bootable but couldn t.
