which of them u prefer ??? sata 2 usb is my choice ....... whot abt u ?

If you mean connection, the best is either eSATA(fastest) or Fireware(very fast but<eSATA)

I plan to use eSATA but am not able to find some good power option. Any pointers.
I have used external casing previously but that bulky power adapters take the fun away.

me 2 afraid 2 connect my sata hdd 2 these socalled external cases .... as power adapter acts as the killing agent ......
any other option ?
like just connecting using usb port & power taken from cpu ....

Let me correct that, SMPS/PSU(not CPU) provides power to internal HDDs only, so no luck there, either get an internal HDD or don't.
BTW what do you mean by "power adapter acts as the killing agent ......?"
Be honest- No other options. Get a Seagate Free-Agent Pro, and use a eSATA if you have one or a Fireware, USB is the last option, its just too slow.

It means, if ur using the external HDD( data read-write operation going on) and suddenly power goes off.......u know what happens.........
I've one 500GB Maxtor, had to format the entire HDD for the same reason, Luckily dumped my contents to one of my frnds' HDD, so I'm saved. (But lost 22GB imp. data  ).
Now I've bought a spike buster, connected it to UPS and Put my HDD adapter to it. Anyone using an external HDD requiring external power should follow this. Or u r living on the edge.

external casing or SATA to USB are same, I have tried both.
SATA to USB cable is same as external casing, just their is no casing. they also use external power adaptors
Whatever form you use, as ax3 said, the problem is with power adaptor, their build is cheap. If you have good adaptor it would be good.
so final verdict is either you use internal or dont. Considering external buy branded as they come with good power adaptors to make them run longer.

I have used supercom casing for HDD(already screwed), genius casing for my burner(working good even after one year). Though the adaptor is cheap and I took it from my friend as my roommate gave the adaptor of the box to someone else. That one was also same.
Today I bought again a casing, this time coolermaster in 1100, good to see it has good adaptor and good build overall. The casing for IDE HDD, I had got my 80GB seagate replaced, and wanted to use it but as I do not have a desktop I bought this case.

Not using any case,
Bought External HDD of Maxtor.
The one u r talkin are actually laptop hdd which is turned to USB hdd by that casing.
