Plz suggest AMD Processor 2 be paired with Asus 780G MotherBoard !

I purchased a P.C with the following config 2& a half years ago
-AMD 3000+ (for6k) & Asus A8N-E motherboard (for 6.5k)

But a month ago my mobo crashed & Distributer of Asus i.e-Rashi Peripherals cud not repair it .But they are providing me a compensation of 3.5k for my Asus A8N-E or Asus Mobo based on 780G chipset.

So , I decided 2 accept Asus mobo based on 780G chipset.
Also, My vendor is advising me 2 buy AMD Phenom X3 8450 proccy (Tri-Core) & Kingston 2GB DDR 800 RAM for 5.5k + 2k = 7.5k

I want u guys 2 tell me other better options than this upgrade.
Also , How does these Phenom Processors fare against Intel Core 2 Duo processors like E7200 ?
