when i use the shift key to type in the symbols..my keyboard doesnt type the corresponding symbol..for eg if i type @ it is written as "..how do i fix it?

Your Regional and Language Setting has been changed from the default 'United States (English)' to 'United Kingdom (English)'. Go to control panel and change it back to 'United States (English)'. It should be done !!
