Default DVD Writer Troubleshoot???

I have a Samsung DVD Writer (203B). Bought it this Feb. and by May this year it stopped reading Dual layer Media. Yesterday I bought Asus DRW-2014LIT and its working fine. With a second drive in place I flashed the Samsung's firmware using its Live update tool, but even now it doesn't reads Dual layer discs. On inserting one in it, it acts like if there's no disc in it, after a initial whim of drive, nothing happens. In case of other tasks like DVD burning, reading, CD burning and reading, its very diligent so I don't think the optical pickup is kaput. What could be the problem? Please help!

How many disks have you tried using in it? If these are those which you got with Digit, then look for some others as they hardly work. If it started giving trouble within three months, then why didn't you contact the company for getting it serviced/checked?

The dual layer media I mainly run on it are the Digit DVDs and sometimes some pirated stuff. AFA getting it replaced its concerned, it was a replacement for a Sony DVD Writer which had the same problem. Moreover with this one I'm like if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Anyhow I can claim the warranty on it but I really need to know why's this happening? BTW I just found another DVD-9, will try to run it and then let you all know.

a sign of probable weakening lens problem

ok since it read the original well made dvd then it could be a problem when u claim warranty..i dont think the people there will use pirated dvd to check...

use the samsung to burn all your backups...use it heavily so it started to fail reading even normal disk...before warranty expire....then i think proper conditions will appear for claiming warranty easily..

..can it burnt dual layer?if no then you can opt for that one also
